Up Comedy Club

The Second City opened its doors on a cold December night in 1959 and its Mainstage quickly became a hotbed for cutting edge satire and comedy. With the addition of the e.t.c. theatre in 1982, Second City's reputation was cemented as the industry leader in improv and sketch comedy.

Opened in January of 2012, UP Comedy Club continues The Second City's 55-year tradition of providing world-wide audiences with Chicago's best comedy. UP Comedy Club is dedicated to producing and presenting a diverse array of comedic performers and formats which include stand-up , sketch , improv , podcasts and other entertainment that is smart, funny and provocative.

The cabaret-style club boasts state of the art audiovisual capabilities in an intimate room with seating for 285 people with a full service kitchen and bar with a no drink minimum .

  • Improv & Sketch Shows

    As a sister theater to The Second City's two resident stages, UP hosts numerous sketch and improv shows. Many shows will include some of your favorite scenes from previous Second City performances and some also include brand new material. You never know!

    But one thing you do know: it's always a good time.

  • Stand-Up Comedy

    Jerrod Carmichael is an LA based standup comedian and performer originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Jerrod recently wrapped Season 2 of his NBC Series The Carmichael Show which he stars in and executive produces and has been renewed for Season 3. Upcoming, Jerrod is set to star alongside Mark Wahlberg in TRANSFORMERS 5: THE LAST NIGHT. Last summer, Jerrod starred in the Nick Stoller directed Universal summer blockbuster NEIGHBORS opposite Seth Rogen and Zac  Efron and his one hour stand up special “Love At The Store” directed by Spike Lee premiered in the fall of 2014 for HBO.

UP Comedy Club has a nightclub atmosphere and alcohol is served. Our shows contain adult content and language. Most of our shows are the equivalent of an R-rated movie. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when coming to the 11pm shows due to Chicago curfew laws. Please note we're not able to admit anyone under the age of 10. UP Comedy Club is best for savvy teen and adult audiences.
